Douglas G. Peterson 1924-2002 Douglas Peterson, age 78, passed away on Monday, June 10,2002 after a long struggle with diabetes.He was born on Feb. 1, 1924, to Joseph and Mary Peterson in Dodgeville, Wis. Doug graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1941. He attended the UW until called into service in 1945. A veteran, he served from 1945 until 1947 as a staff sergeant in Italy. Doug returned to Wisconsin afterwards and graduated from the UW in 1950. He worked as an engineer at Badger Ordnance and then for 35 years with Insurance Service Organization of Wisconsin until retirement. After retirement he ran the family farm in Dodgeville for the next 10 years. Doug is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Lou: his son, Douglas J. (Mary )Peterson: three grand-children, Mark, Chrissie and Kelsey of Omaha: brother, Byron (Dorothy) of Madison: and his sister, Helen of Auburn, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents: four brothers, Wayne, Donald, Ted, and Dean; and his sister, Beth. Funeral services were held at 10 A.M. on Monday , June 17, 2002 at Orchard Ridge United Church of Christ, 1501 Gilbert Road, Madison, with the Rev. Winton Boyd officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Doug will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his kind heart and his abundant strength.
