Mary Louise Strutt

Mary Louise Strutt was born at the General Hospital in Dodgevill, Wi. (Iowa Co.). She graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1951. She married Douglas G. Peterson in 1952 and moved to Madison, Wisconsin. In 1955 she graduated from the University of Wisconsin with high honors and received the Holt Memorial Scholarship Award. She served in the Educational profession for 31 years as a teacher and 7 years as the Director of a Local Materials Project. Under a grant from the federal government, she worked with Madison community leaders and teachers to produce slides, filmstrips and tapes about Madison and Wisconsin. Students in 34 school districts used the materials about the geography, geology, history, environmental science, and cultural arts to become more aware of their community. The project was selected by the President's National Council and received the Innovative Project award and represented Wisconsin as an outstanding program.
